We found some cute little banana slugs. Which are also the mascot for UC Santa Cruz. Then we rode up, up, up (and walked) and called it a day. It was probably not the best introduction to mountain biking, and Britton is trying really hard to convince me to go again except start with the uphill and end with the downhill.
We also planned to do a bonfire out at the beach with some friends. The day got really windy so we opted for a bonfire at Lake Lagunita instead. It's kind of a glorified water retention area on Stanford's campus. But this time of year it has water...and DUCKS! We got a fire going on the sandy beach-ish area, and ate Girl Scout cookies and told embarrassing stories about each other.

Banana slugs are gross.
I've never seen a banana slug, ever. Thank you for the intro. Re biking...I recommend ridge riding; you start at the top, stay at the top, and end at the top. Great views, a moderate workout. Then drive home in Lexus comfort. (I don't know trails in your area, but Tilden in Berkeley has a great 10-mile ridge ride; all paved too).
Britton,
Remember the down hill run in Santa Cruz by the Loma Prieta epicenter? That was a fun downhill after going up hill for quite awhile. Remember I would tell you guys, the top is just around the next corner? When it wasn't you guys would start crying...mean old dad.
