The time has finally come to celebrate Will's first birthday!! Our chubby baby is stretching out into a pudgy toddler. He's still working on walking, and has taken a few steps and stood by himself once.
Some of his favorite things:
Brushes. His current favorite is the toothbrush. Take it away from him and he will start wailing!
Piggyback rides
yogurt, bread, and strawberries
doggies
attention from adults, but more especially kids
His new favorite toy is the Little People airplane that his Aunt Erin got him. It sings an annoyingly catchy song that Will loves to dance to. As I type this he's pressing the button and waving his arms around.

For the double birthday celebration (Will shares his birthday with his Uncle Alex), the Olson clan rode the carousel and train at Tilden Park.

Like mother, like daughter!

We spent a little time in the sand and surf at an Alameda beach. Not the same as the real beach, but it met the requirements. (sand, warm weather, and not too disgusting water, although Alex did get sick...)

And we wrapped the party up with some more swimming, pizza, and ice cream cake at our place. There's 11 candles for Alex, and one for Will.

As you can guess from the title of the post, life is not all fun and games for the Willster. Yesterday morning I was holding him in the kitchen and he reached out and put his little hand right on the burner. Not even the musical airplane could distract him from screaming.

There's a blister on each finger, but the one shown here is the worst. It's pretty much the size of his finger! It's been over 24 hours and still hasn't popped. Hope no one is eating right now...but any advice for severe blisters?
A note for worriers
Will is fine. After a nap yesterday he was back to his normal, happy self. I'm using antibiotic ointment and band-aids on him.

Okay, this is going to sound weird (maybe) but for burns grapefruit seed extract (has to be seed extract) is supposedly supposed to keep any scars from forming, and heal the burn within three days or something. You just add a bit of water and rub some one there (my mother-in-law got me some but I haven't tried it yet). Here's what it looks like...

Like I said, haven't tried it but I was in a room of about 25 women that swear by it... You'll have to tell me how it works if you do try.
And happy birthday to Will! Daphne's is next month! Can you BELIEVE they're 1?!?!
Poor birthday boy! Congrats on making it through your first official year of mommyhood. Whew! Now you can do ANYTHING! What a way to learn the meaning of the word "hot!" Lily learned why I said "hot" one day when she grabbed my curling iron. No blisters, but she forever believes me now when I say something is hot and she'll point at it and say "uh oh, hot!" over and over.
Oh!!! Poor little fingers. I scorched my own recently and avoided blisters by keeping a blue icy on it for an hour. Probably an impossible solution for a 1 yr old though. Happy birthday Alex and Will! (so happy to share my b'day month with you).
Happy Birthday Will!
Love,
Alan and family
Thanks for the tip Jill...I'm making a trip to Walmart today so I'll have to see if they carry the cure-all grapefruit seed extract.
I didn't use the word "hot" at all! It was such a sudden, unexpected move. I hope he doesn't have to go through this again.
poor guy! burns are horrible. has he seen a doctor yet? emalia burned her hand on a weber grill last summer. we took her to the er and they gave us some terrific burn cream. will's pediatrician may do the same. i hope that he starts healing up soon. happy first birthday little guy!
Happy Birthday Will! We hope your fingers feel better soon. You should come over and play with us--we'd have so much fun!
